Why Our Children Need Etiquette Training
Although the thought of etiquette training may seem snobbish or old fashioned, it is a well known
fact that children who participate in etiquette training develop stronger self respect and esteem,
understand how to accept the differences of others and learn to behave in an appreciate manner
in public, educational and professional settings.
Because of these results, there are three primary reasons why our children need to be taught
etiquette: (1) they develop a strong level of self-respect and confidence, (2) they gain improved
academic achievement, and (3) the attainment of their future success depends on it.
Etiquette training fosters the development of self-esteem, in that it equips children to behave in
an acceptable manner and make good choices when dealing with conflict. When children know
that they are accepted and that their decisions are supported, they experience self-respect.
This self-respect will continue to lead their choices and actions well into their futures.
Moreover, in such a competitive society, good manners open doors and provide opportunities
that may not be realized by those who do not practice them. According to a recent study
conducted by Harvard University, Stanford Research Institute and the Carnegie Mellon
Foundation, 85% of our children’s future success depends on social skills.
Children who have been taught etiquette have a solid foundation from which to launch as they
strive to attain success. As parents and community leaders, it is our responsibility to invest in the
lives of our children by enrolling them in training that will support their futures. This type of
investment empowers tomorrow’s leaders and provides an excellent return on our investment in
the way of strong leaders and professionals.
Proper behavior and a level of respect will surely make opportunities available to those who can
follow protocol and respect the needs and differences of others.
The Decorum Group wants to provide to children every opportunity for advancement and
achievement as they move into their adult life. We are confident that when etiquette training is
implemented, the skills and knowledge acquired enable our children to benefit from good
communications and relationships with others. As our children become adults, they will enjoy far
more opportunities for advancement if they know how to work well with others and follow
protocol. As the ancient wisdom says, “Manners will take you where money can not.”
