Understanding God’s plan of power/potential for man.
When God created man, He spoke to Himself.
Genesis 1: 26 – 28 - 26 Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, in our likeness,
and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock,
over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground." 27 So God
created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he
created them. 28 God blessed them and said to them, "Be fruitful and increase in
number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air
and over every living creature that moves on the ground."
When God created Adam, He gave him extreme power.
Genesis 2:19-20 - 19 Now the LORD God had formed out of the ground all the beasts of
the field and all the birds of the air. He brought them to the man to see what he would
name them; and whatever the man called each living creature, that was its name. 20 So
the man gave names to all the livestock, the birds of the air and all the beasts of the
field.
What does being created in God’s image mean in terms of power?
One of the aspects of God’s image that we have is His nature. God is spirit and
we are spirit as well.
God’s nature is Spirit. Just as in nature, there are laws that govern how it must
function, there are also laws that govern how our Spirit functions. We were created to
function in the spirit, not in the flesh; this is how we access our power.
Romans 8:1-11 - 1Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ
Jesus, 2because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set me free from the
law of sin and death. 3For what the law was powerless to do in that it was weakened by
the sinful nature, God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful man to be a
sin offering. And so he condemned sin in sinful man, 4in order that the righteous
requirements of the law might be fully met in us, who do not live according to the sinful
nature but according to the Spirit.
5Those who live according to the sinful nature have their minds set on what that nature
desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what
the Spirit desires. 6The mind of sinful man is death, but the mind controlled by the Spirit
is life and peace; 7the sinful mind is hostile to God. It does not submit to God's law, nor
can it do so. 8Those controlled by the sinful nature cannot please God.
9You, however, are controlled not by the sinful nature but by the Spirit, if the Spirit of
God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to
Christ. 10But if Christ is in you, your body is dead because of sin, yet your spirit is alive
because of righteousness. 11And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is
living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies
through his Spirit, who lives in you.
Another aspect of God’s image is as a triune being. There are three components
of God and there are three components of man.
God Man
Father Spirit
Holy Spirit Soul
Son Body
Man’s measurement of power is tremendously limiting.
When sin entered the Garden of Eden, Adam lost his spiritual connection with
God and began to function in nature or the flesh. Since that time, man has been relying
on his intellect to understand his power.
Man uses natural methods to measure power. Man typically measures power by:
• Education
• Wealth
• Race
• Position
• Physical Strength
Natural measurements of power limit us to what the soul (intellect) and body can
produce.
Our true power and potential cannot be discerned through our intellect or body.
Only our Spirit man can connect with this power.
How much power is actually within us?
Our spiritual power cannot be measured.
Ephesians 3:20 - Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or
imagine, according to His power that is at work within us…
Matthew 17:20 - He replied, "Because you have so little faith. I tell you the truth, if you
have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, 'Move from here
to there' and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you."
How do you access this power?
Man has access to his power when his Spirit man communes with God’s Holy
Spirit
Romans 8:6 - 6The mind of sinful man is death, but the mind controlled by the Spirit is
life and peace…
Through your Spirit man receive revelation knowledge from God’s Holy Spirit.
Proverbs 3:13-15 – Blessed is the man who finds wisdom, the man who gains
understanding, for she is more profitable than silver and yields better returns than
gold. She is more precious than rubies; nothing you desire can compare with her.
Ensure that your soul (intellect) is a servant to your Spirit man.
1 Corinthians 3:18-20 – 18 Do not deceive yourselves. If any one of you thinks he is wise
by the standards of this age, he should become a "fool" so that he may become wise.
19For the wisdom of this world is foolishness in God's sight. As it is written: "He catches
the wise in their craftiness"; 20and again, "The Lord knows that the thoughts of the wise
are futile."
Ensure that your body is a servant to your soul (intellect).
What is man capable of when he uses his Spiritual power?
Anything he desires. There are no limits to what man can manifest on this earth.
Matthew 17:20 - He replied, "Because you have so little faith. I tell you the truth, if you
have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, 'Move from here
to there' and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you."
What have you wanted to do but thought it was impossible?
